Description: Iowa native Ray Michael Sorensen II began drawing as a young child. He painted his first mural on a large 80 ton rock. The mural on the rock known throughout the world was the original Freedom Rock located near Greenfield, Iowa. While attending college, Ray was inspired by the movie “Saving Private Ryan” and wanted to express his sincere thank you to our veterans. After his first painting in 1999, he painted it with a new scene annually for many years. In 2013 he proposed painting a rock in each county in Iowa.
