Description: “Maureen Seamonds was commissioned by the BCF to create two separate sculptures that activate the interior space from the stone pedestals to the lower edge of the curved arch. Both works echo the museum’s entrance motifs of arching columns in void and solid cut-outs that spiral upward in a widening diameter from a narrow base. The rhythm of the vertical sculptures is accented by the south-facing exposure and the sun dances on the curved surfaces. The sculptures visually proclaim that this is a building - a classically imposing building, with entry gained by ascending a broad set of stairs under a 40-foot portico framed by columns - with a creative spirit. Maureen Seamonds viewed this opportunity as one where the sculptures would visually stimulate a dialog between the public who passes by and the museum building - the definition of public art.” - Margaret A.
