Over the Treetops!
Artist: Michael Sweere - Minneapolis, MN
Location: Fort Dodge Regional Airport’s Main Terminal, 1639 Nelson Avenue
Year: 2014
Dimensions: 18’ W x 8’ H
Medium: Recycled ceramic and porcelain tile with glass and broken dishware
Description: Michael Sweere wanted to capture the excitement of “taking off” on a perfect, late summer day. Looking over your shoulder, you see the Des Moines River and the landscape getting smaller as you rise into the clouds; you become surrounded by blue sky and endless shades of green and gold – the true colors of America’s Heartland. “Over the Treetops” represents agriculture, farms, rivers, and rolling hills – the features that make this part of the country unique. The artist chose to include an old-fashioned windmill in the design to convey the idea of wind and constant motion of the air.
